New State Handicapper: Norwood Cycling Club's Bill Drodge has been appointed the new State Handicapper for senior and under-19 riders. Bill has a sound history in cycling with twelve years on the road, committee man, treasure and assistant handicapper with Norwood. The Board of CSA welcomes Bill to this very important role and would also like to sincerely thank Warwick Phillips for his work over the years. Warwick will step down in September this year. The Board will also like to thank the other members who showed interest in the position. Ian Pedler, Sturt Holdfast Marion Cycling Club, agreed some months back to take charge of the juniors, Ian has been appointed Junior State Handicapper
New Look Mount Gambier: The Mount Gambier Cycling and Triathlon Club will stage a super weekend of cycling in early May next year. The current race series will be revamped offering riders prize money of around $25,000 over two days. Details are yet to be finalised, but the weekend could see the long 100 mile event in a new format while on Sunday the McDonald's Cup with be staged around the Blue Lake. A 3.5 kilometre circuit that's picture postcard. The Mount Gambier City Council has agreed to the concept in principle with Club President Howard Bartlett and his team working out the finer points. Local businessmen Bernie & Todd Knight (McDonald's Family Restaurant) have committed $5,000 for naming rights, the council $2,000 for the Sunday event. The Sunday, will be set aside for a series of races around the Blue Lake and BUGS will also take part in a charity ride to raise money, making it a true cycling family day for the whole community.
Cycling SA and SA Vets Dates: At next year's Tour Down Under Cycling SA and the Vets of SA will join forces to manage a 4 Stage series as part of the TDU festivities. Masters-aged competitors from across Australia will have the chance to race in a UCI Cycling Australia sanctioned event. Race-1 will be staged on Sunday 18th January, Race-2 Thursday 22nd and Race-3 Saturday 24th. CSA in conjunction with Round-7 of the Rendition Homes Teams Series will stage a further race in between these events on Monday evening in Norwood, the night before state-1 of the Tour Down Under. Details and venues will be released shortly.
CSA Welcomes Tristan Just: Accountant Tristan Just, employed with Ernst & Young is the newly appointed Independent Director on our Board, a Manager, working in the Transaction Advisory Services (Corporate Finance) division of the Adelaide Office. Tristan joined Ernst & Young in January 2007 after spending over 5 years with anAdelaide independent corporate restructuring firm working on a broad range of corporate restructuring assignments. We welcome Tristan to the Board of Cycling SA. You can read all about Tristan and his impressive employment background in our news section.
Built Environs Senior & Junior State Track Team Staff: The National Track Championships will be held at the Super-Drome in Adelaide. February 3rd to 7th 2009 and CSA requires expressions of interest from members who would be interested in being part of the team's management. SASI's Gary West will coach the Senior team and if you feel you have what it takes, send through an email to our Development Coach Michael Hardy michael.hardy@cycling.org.au the Junior Built Enviorns State Team will be contesting the Nationals in March 2009 from the 12th to the 15th (Super-Drome Adelaide). Michael Hardy is the Coach and expressions of interest for support staff are required. Email your details to Michael. It's a very rewarding position being involved with athletes at theses levels.
Masters Commission: The Board of CSA has confirmed David Schutz (South Coast Cycling Club) as the Chairperson for the new Masters Commission and Tom Eltridge-Smith will act as Ex-Officio on the committee.
Six month renewal of your Cycling Australia licence is now available and you will be paid up until the 31st of December 2008. Full details can be obtained from here.

The Redition Homes Teams Series in 2008-09 will become one of the biggest of its kind in Australia with the prize money being tripled. We thank Wayne Fazzalari and his team at Rendition Homes for their massive support of cycling. The building company is using cycling to brand its business. |
