South Australia's efforts at the Scody Australian Road Championships were headed by Jack Bobridge winning both the Under-23 Time Trial and Road Race. This young man is a shining star on the horizon ever so bright. Jack is becoming the most complete cyclist since Stuart O'Grady. Other impressive performances came from Alexis Rhodes in the Women's Elite Time Trial taking the Silver medal which was under half a second from Gold. Tiffany Cromwell grabbed third in the Under-23 Women's Road Race and Carlee Taylor fourth. Rachell Neylan proved her worth in the Women's Road Race coming in at 15th, Amber Halliday crossing in 19th position, Lisa Jacobs 23rd and Sophie Ootes 15th in the Time Trial. If you had to pick a 'special moment' or something 'special' Amber Halliday in the Time Trial finishing fourth and winning the Sprint jersey in the Women's Road Race. Chris Jongewaard was ever so professional putting in a gutsy effort in the Men's Road Race. And last but not least was Chris Martin. The rower come cyclist slogged it up and down the Buninyong circuit carried about 82 Kilograms. It wasn't about placing for Chris is was finishing the event at an Australian Championship on a very demanding course.

South Australian Jack Bobridge's amazing form continued at Buninyong, Ballarat today, when he took out the 2009 Men's Under-23 Time Trial. It was an excellent ride by the youngster who had to dodge a series of cars as he flew down the home straight to the finish line slowing him up. Bobridge started as race favorite for the 28 kilomtres and live up to the pre-race hype.
In the Open Women's Time Trial South Australia had a host of riders headed by Alex Rhodes. Alex had been riding well in Adelaide prior to this event and with Bridie O'Donnell pulling out due to illness, Al was going to be a major contender for the Gold Medal and Aussie title. She tried her best and was rewarded with a Silver medal, however just a look at the time difference between first & second in the full results below, it was a first class effort Alexis. There was also a lot of interest in Amber Halliday, the 29-year-old racing her first ever race after crossing over from rowing. Now when we say first race we mean 'first' race, she hadn't even raced in a club event prior to today. She is a true talent and proved the big engine theory was right, finishing a credible fourth by a couple of seconds. After the race she said, "I just need to learn how to corner, it's all new to me but I love it". Rachell Neyland came in sixth place, Lisa Jacobs 11th, Carlee Taylor 14th, Sophie Ootes 15th and Stephanie Frawley 16th. Three in the first six was a sound result according to Built Environs CSA State Team Coach Gary West. Tomorrow it's the men's turn with racing commencing at 11-am.
